WHAT IS A BARRIER LOTION?

A barrier lotion or cream is a product that is applied directly to the surface of the skin creating a topical physical barrier to maintain and protect your skin barrier from irritants and preventing the skin from drying out.

Barrier lotions keep skin moisturized by infusing the epidermis with emollients and water while also trapping it all in with an occlusive film. "Occlusives” form a protective seal over the skin to lock in hydration and the products applied under them.

The skin is the largest organ of the human body and comprises three major layers: epidermis, dermis, and subcutis.  One vital function of the skin is to form an effective barrier between the organism and the environment. It maintains an ‘inside-outside’ barrier regulating water loss, and an ‘outside-inside’ barrier protecting the organism from external threats such as pathogens, chemicals, irritants, and allergens, which might cause an immune response if permitted to pass through to the deeper epidermal  or dermal layers of the skin.

 In 2016, the film industry welcomed a game-changing innovation when Emmy Award-winning make-up artist Jennifer Aspinall collaborated with RDL International, Inc., a medically based dermatological company, to introduce SKIN SAVER BARRIER LOTION.

This revolutionary product was initially created for professional make-up artists and hair stylists, aiming to address the unique challenges they face in their line of work.

Jennifer’s journey to create SKIN SAVER BARRIER LOTION was inspired by her years of experience with prosthetics and heavy make-up applications. She witnessed the adverse effects of traditional barriers, which often proved drying and abrasive to the skin, prompting her to seek a gentler and more reparative solution.

The opportunity to bring this innovative product to life emerged when she crossed paths with the owner of RDL International. With their combined expertise, they embarked on a six-month journey filled with extensive testing and experimentation. This collaborative effort culminated in the creation of Skin Saver Barrier Lotion, which has since become a trusted ally for makeup professionals all over the world and a testament to the power of industry collaboration and innovation.

HOW TO USE

Clean and dry area for application. Apply SKIN SAVER BARRIER LOTION thoroughly by gently messaging into skin using fingers, brush, or sponge, taking care to cover all areas, such as the fingernails or behind ears.  Let dry for 2-3 min. Allow for lotion to dry before applying make-up or exposing skin to environmental pollutants or potential irritants. 

If using with a sunblock apply Skin Saver Barrier Lotion under sunblock.

Active Ingredient: Triclosan 0.5% 

Ingredients: aqua, propylene glycol, stearic acid, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, glyceryl stearate, ricinus, communis seed oil, cetyl palmitate, dimethicone, mineral oil, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, triethanolamine, tricolsan, disodium EDTA, neutralizing fragrance, 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1, 3-diol
